New Church Building

“Your House, O Lord, I Love”

For many of us in the Christchurch Area, St. Mary and St. Athanasius mean more to us than just a building. St. Mary and St. Athanasius is humble, warm, caring, and full of amazing family and friends, and our loving priest. St.Mary and St. Athanasius IS OUR HOME.

St.Mary and St. Athanasius Coptic Orthodox Church is currently under construction.

  • Coptic Orthodox Church
  • Our church

St.Mary and St. Athanasius is designed to make a Coptic (Egyptian) iconic landmark structure. This building design combines the historical heritage architectural style and the modern design that utilises seismic resistant structure and modern compliant materials with the current New Zealand code.

On the architectural side, the new building utilises columns, arches, barrel-vaulted roofs, and dome structure which is a unique style for the Coptic Church.

The construction of this building is made over three stages:

The first stage is almost complete with a few remaining elements to be finalised. The first stage includes the major structural part of the church which covers the foundation, walls, roof steel and domes structure and it will cost the church a sum of 1.7 million dollars covered entirely from church donations.

The second stage will cover the completion of the roof structure, Civil works: plumbing, electricity, floor slab, and ramps.

The third stage will cover the final finishing of plastering, painting, doors, windows, furniture, carpets, lights, etc.
